In his first stop among many across the country, Attorney General Eric Holder will be speaking in Atlanta tonight (12/1/14) on race relations and police involvement in their communities in the wake of the shooting in Ferguson, MO. Holder is scheduled to meet with local law enforcement and community leaders to participate in a discussion regarding the recent decision of the grand jury on officer Wilson, as well as ongoing issues of racial profiling and discrimination.
The meeting will take place at Ebenezer Baptist Church at 6pm. Among those expected to be in attendance are Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Atlanta Police Chief George Turner, and Dr. Bernice King.
Regarding the topics of the meeting, Ebenezer pastor Dr. Raphael Warnock said, "The events in Ferguson bring into sharp focus the need to change America again until all enjoy the protection and promise of our justice system, 'equal treatment under the law’…I am honored to welcome our nation's first black attorney general to America's Freedom Church."
Under instruction from President Obama, Holder is to be conducting regional meetings like this one all across the country, focusing on building trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
